In the security industry, there are four kinds of patrols;
(1) Unlock or takeover patrol
(2) Routine patrol
(3) High risk area patrol
(4) Lockup or handover patrol
Unlock or takeover patrol
This is the process of opening a business premises or a store at the start of the day. This may involve the opening of entry points to allow members of staff entry in preparation for the business day. There may also be cases when a guard is taking over from a night duty shift.
Routine patrols is a key duty of most security officers, this involves patrolling designated area of responsibility to ensure there is a high level of security coverage. This is done prevent or detect any criminal activities.
High risk area patrol
Some security patrols can carry a particular high risk of criminal or unauthorised activities.
It includes the same duties as a routine patrol, but at increased levels.
Lockup or handover patrol
This type patrol involves securing the site after the day’s business has concluded, making sure the premises are cleared of staff and alarm system are initiated. Depending on the type of business it may also involve handing over responsibility to the night duty officers.
